Here’s the deal…

For 30 days straight eat quality meat, vegetables, a little nuts & seeds, a little fruit, and consume healthy fats while avoiding sugar, grains, legumes and dairy.  Try to eat a quality protein and fat at every meal.  Get rid of all processed and refined foods and get back to the basics.  Drink lots of water and do a little movement.  Be sure to keep stress levels low, sleep well and get some sun.  For more detailed and guided information GO HERE.  It’s so simple but SO effective!

Why does this work so well?

You will be maximizing nutrition and minimizing toxicity so you will dramatically reduce inflammation in your body.  Inflammation plays a part in all diseases from obesity, to cancer, heart disease, arthritis and so on.  From a dietary perspective, it comes largely from poor quality foods with lots of chemicals, preservatives, toxic oils, and sugar.  These are foods we’ve been conditioned to eat and refer to as “food”…. but it’s not food, it’s poison and it’s been weighing (no pun intended) you down!  You won’t be touching any of that stuff!

You will be consuming significantly less sugar than you would be with a Standard American Diet since you are taking out sodas, juices, grains, artificial sweeteners, and foods labeled as “low fat” and “heart healthy” that just have loads of sugar.  In doing so, you will have much more stable blood sugar levels.  Your body will transition from getting its energy from sugar to getting its energy from fat meaning you will become a fat burner as opposed to a sugar burner.  This is where people start to see amazing results.

You will no longer be eating foods that are gut irritants such as processed & refined foods, grains, legumes and conventional dairy.  This will allow you to better be able to breakdown and properly absorb food so your body gets all the nutrients and vitamins it needs and was designed for.  Your gut will also begin repair itself from the damage it’s taken from (for most people) a lifetime of processed and refined foods it was never intended for.  This allows the gut barrier to better be able to tell what needs to pass through the intestinal lining and into the blood stream (vital nutrients and building blocks) and what is not needed and will be discarded as waste.  Gut health is the key to building a strong immune system!

(This is Chris…he changed his diet for 30 days, lost 6.4 lbs, and 5.7% body fat.  He changed nothing with his exercise routine during this time and simply ate according to a whole food paleo type template)

    I would love to give this a try. Unfortunately, I am stuck in a rut and buying and cooking new and different foods feels overwhelming. Does anyone have a week or two of menus and shopping lists they would share with me? Having a specific plan would get me to try new things and new combinations of foods, kick start my creativity and get me thinking about food differently.

    I don’t do coffee but I enjoy green tea with stevia in the am. Is that okay? What about almond milk? I have just started the 30 days. I don’t have alot to loose as I had started a different lifestyle change awhile ago. However, I either gain or stay the same and have been doing this 3 weeks now with 1 cheat day. Any ideas? I walk 4x a week and am trying to get back to the gym but hard with schedules. Any input would be great!

    My friend introduced my husband and I to Paleo. We bought the book, “Paleo for Beginners” and we love it! We both feel better and have more energy. I have lost 14 lbs in 2 months and my husband has lost 50 lbs. I have suffered from Gluten and sugar issues for several years now and the Paleo eating has been a win win for me. My husband has been suffering from weight for years and nothing seemed to work for him until Paleo stepped into our lives. Love it and recommend it to anyone who wants to feel better along with loosing pounds. My parents are now eating this way and the change has been wonderful for them too.

    I dropped about 40 pounds in 4 months by eating a paleo diet. My weight has stabilized at around 195 lbs for the past 2 months, but my waist seems to still be getting smaller. Also, my energy level is way up!

      Julie,
      We recommend consuming high quality animal-based protein, which is an important component of the Paleo diet. If you are open to eating fish and eggs, this will be a great source of protein for you. You may also consider a high quality grass-fed whey and/or hemp protein to get more sources of protein in your diet. Some vegetarians also choose to add fermented, raw dairy, such as kefir and homemade yogurt in their diets…although this isn’t a strict Paleo approach. This can be beneficial for some people. We continue to recommend excluding any conventional dairy. Hope that helps!

    I can’t see going COMPLETELY off… and I have an 8 yr. old daughter, how do I help her change her diet? She LOVES her granola, spaghetti, etc.

      Leah,
      Of course you can do whatever it is you want to do…jump in to Paleo 100% or ease in. We typically recommend the 30 Day Challenge method…going all in for 30 days. Going “all in” really helps people to push the “re-set” button and eliminates most of the major inflammatory, toxic and reactive foods. Many people get great results with this. I would say after 30 days or so you could add in a little of the quinoa or amaranth if you want to experiment with how your body is handling them. It’s helpful to remove questionable foods for a significant chunk of time and then add them back in later to really get a sense of how you respond do them. Sometimes you don’t even realize you have a problem with a food until you take a break for a while and then add it back in.

      As for your daughter…what a blessing for a mom or dad to teach their kids to eat healthy when they are young! Start off making some of her favorite things using “paleo” guideline. For example: there are ways to make “paleo” granola out of nuts, seeds, cococonut, etc. And then continue to make gradual changes and get her involved in the process. Make it fun!
